This presentation dives into The Attention Economy through a data-driven project created using Power BI and Python, revealing how companies generate billions in ad revenue from our daily screen time while individuals and economies face hidden costs such as lost productivity and diminished focus.
Drawing on data from Kaggle, Meta/Google Ads, and the World Bank, the project highlights key insights. The global average screen time exceeds 7 hours per day. Countries like South Africa, Brazil, and the Philippines generate over $3,000 ad revenue per internet user annually. There is a striking imbalance between economic gain and productivity loss. The presentation also explores what consumes most of our digital attention including social media, video streaming, and gaming and the cognitive impact of this constant engagement.
The key takeaway is that while others profit from our attention, we hold the power to reclaim control. This session invites the audience to become more intentional digital citizens using their screen time with awareness and purpose.
