Petanque is a strategy and skill game similar to Bocce. The game goes by the name Boules in France. There is equipment (boules) you can use and we will teach you how to play. Play starts at 1 pm on the third Saturday of each month in the winter (10am in the hotter months) at Nevin Park Petanque Courts in Charlotte NC. Seriously, just show up and try it - we think you'll enjoy it.
If you are new to petanque, come early around 12:30 pm and you'll get a quick lesson before regular play starts. We would love to meet you. Please call or message us through MeetUp if you have a larger group to assure we have enough equipment and folks to teach.
Nevin Park Petanque Courts are located toward the back of the park off the parking lot. Drive to the stop sign and go toward HORSESHOES. Park in that lot and go up the hill to the right of the play ground. This link shows where courts are in the park https://maps.app.goo.gl/o4zyMfjDQAfX9yHVA if in doubt. Reach out via MeetUp to confirm play if weather is a concern.
We are affiliated with Carolina Petanque and we play Petanque at locations throughout the Carolinas. There is no cost or requirement to join but once you start playing, we may see you at tournaments across the state!
Overview of game... In pétanque the objective is to score points by having boules closer to the target than the opponent after all boules have been thrown. This is achieved by throwing or rolling boules closer to the small target ball, officially called a jack but known colloquially as a cochonnet, or by hitting the opponents' boules away from the target, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. The team closest to the target ball gets a point for each ball (boule) they have closer than the opposing team.
