Pétanque Play at OMB in Ballantyne - Free - Try/Learn/Play - Join Us!
The Olde Mecklenburg Restaurant & Biergarten at Ballantyne, 15025 Bowl St,, Charlotte, NC, USYou are invited. It's Free... Carolina Pétanque is hosting “Introduction to Pétanque” at The Olde Mecklenburg Restaurant & Biergarten at Ballantyne (OMB) in the south Charlotte area on Saturday Feb. 21st from 11 am – 3:00 pm. This is a beautiful brewery which typically has a large turnout on Saturdays. The patio area is graveled and perfect for playing pétanque. A great location to spread the word about our addictive sport while also having a fun afternoon outdoors, make new friends... and possibly work in a few beers to boot.
Beginners are not just welcome, but encouraged to join in. We would love to meet you. Just bring yourself and your friends! There is equipment (boules) you can use and we will teach you how to play. Seriously, just show up and try it - we think you'll love the sport.
There will be 8 to 10 courts set up late morning through the afternoon this coming Saturday. Try tossing a boule... get a detailed lesson... or seasoned players jump right into a game. Our trainers will be there all afternoon to teach OMB's patrons. Looking forward to seeing you

Pétanque is a strategy and skill game similar to Bocce. The game goes by the name Boules in France. Overview of game play... In pétanque the objective is to score points by having boules closer to the target than the opponent after all boules have been thrown. This is achieved by throwing or rolling boules closer to the small target ball, officially called a jack but known colloquially as a cochonnet, or by hitting the opponents' boules away from the target, while standing inside a circle with both feet on the ground. The team closest to the target ball gets a point for each ball (boule) they have closer than the opposing team.

If you are new to pétanque, come early around 12:30 pm and you'll get a quick lesson before regular play starts. We would love to meet you. Please call or message us through MeetUp if you have a larger group to assure we have enough equipment and folks to teach.
Directions: Nevin Park can be found at 6000 Statesville Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269. You'll drive into the park for almost a mile to the first stop sign that will have a list of areas with one of them listed as HORSESHOES (or something similar). Turn left at that stop sign. You will then park in that parking lot. You will see a pavilion and a playground on the left of your car after you have turned left at the stop sign. After you have parked in that parking area, you'll walk to the top of the rise past the shuffle board area just to the right of the playground. We play on previously created bocce courts which are perfect so far as we're concerned.
