What we’re about

WELCOME PETANQUE FANS..OR WANT TO BE'S..

PAY Tonk is a Fun game that's here to stay...and Summer Season is going to be here soon, in Auckland...and everyone will be playing beach games soon...so I invite you to join us for some fun recreational outdoor friendly atmosphere at a park or beach near you soon .

Much like lawn bowls, the aim is to get your Boule...one or two ...closer to the Jack or Small Target ball..

Simple and easy to play, you can enjoy Petanque at any age and fitness level. It can be played on the grassed areas, at the beach, and on special occasions, on a gravely area.

Gender, age, and physical ability have very little impact on success.. Unless you play professionally..And you don't have to be a sporty person, as I'm not.

This easy going Petanque and Boules Group will teach you how to play and enjoy this wonderful game, it's exciting, therapeutic and addictive.

Combined with Picnics and Beach visits, all ages are Welcome, and drinking alcohol is optional for the few hours we play, relax and enjoy each other's company. Drop in for a curious look , stay for a game or two..or longer..we will fire up the BBQs somewhere, sometimes, and enjoy a Beer or Wine...snacks and banter...

So do something different together , or add this to your bucket list...Petanque sets come in boxes of 4 or 6, and can be found quite cheaply in a charity shop or ask a friend..whose probably bought a set twenty years ago from those weird Advertisements..

I have been playing Petanque Games socially for many years, And previously had a regular group of friends playing over the summer, so let's start this outdoor gentle exercise and fun way to help make new connections all over Auckland this Summer Season.

PETANQUE is played in a very social spirit, however it can also be very complicated if you want to stick with all the official rules.. Here on this Meet Up Group, we will play casual rules ...and leave the alfa types to play elsewhere ...

Once you have started playing Petanque, or Boules, with us, it is likely that you will wonder why you and most other New Zealanders had not started playing years earlier.

Membership- Please be sure you have a clear recognizable portrait photo of yourself when you RSVP. This builds up trust and respect for everyone's safety and happiness.

If you’re bringing younger people with you, please let them know, we could be drinking alcohol, so support the adult themed recreational experiences ..and leave your responsibilities at home..

Keep Life Simple..

Thank you for your interest in playful Petanque..

Roll on Summer Season and Outdoor Fun Times and New Friends Opportunities..

Petanque & Plonk & People at Mission Bay- Outdoors Activities Together & Fun

Petanque & Plonk & People at Mission Bay- Outdoors Activities Together & Fun

Mission Bay, 104 Tamaki Drive, Mission Bay, Auckland, NZ

Greetings All

Let's enjoy the last weekend before Christmas Holidays to play Petanque Games on Sunday Dec 21st .

Come along with a friend or two to Mission Bay where we will be playing Petanque Games on the Grassed Areas close to the famous Fountain here in between Tamaki Drive and the Beach.

Games are easy to learn and we'll play relaxed Meet Up Rules with your Host and Coach ; Stephen F whose been bringing people together for outdoor adventures for many years ...mainly hiking..however he's also been playing Petanque Games socially for many years too..

Like lawn bowls..playing Petanque is easy peasy..you choose to either roll or toss these metal balls....a short distance ..which are like heavy marbles...aiming to get the closest to the Jack .the target..ball thrown out on the grass here to begin with..typically games go for ten minutes in groups of 4 or 6 ...More playing details...on the day..

I've got about 4 sets of what are called Boules..and others may bring a set along too.

We'll practice together on the grassed areas...and depending on numbers interested..we may shift to the beach...for a game of two if space allow s...Mission Bay can get busy in the afternoons so we will start before lunch.

NO DOGS OR SMOKERS OR CHILDREN TODAY PLEASE .

WHEN- Sunday December 21st - 2025.

Meet and Greet is 11am .

LET'S GATHER NEAR THE MISSION BAY FOUNTAIN.

Look for us under the Large Trees here.

BRING along everything you need to keep yourself happy outdoors here..

I'd recommend bringing a portable picnic chair or a rug to sit on. Sunhat etc.

I will set up under the cover of trees hopefully left or right of the Fountain . Look out for me wearing Orange Shirt.

BRING LUNCH- Food and drinks or there's plenty of takeaway food choices here .

Traditionally Petanque Games are socially acceptable to include Plonk/ Wine or a Beer or Orange Juice.

We will finish around 2pm .

Carpooling- Transportation.

Organise this amongst yourselves prior to this Sunday morning event. Most importantly avoid the queues driving around the beaches here on Tamaki Drive. Choose alternatives coming Via Kepa Road or coming here from behind Mission Bay .
.
I recommend the free unlimited parking in the streets behind Mission Bay shops..Or you may be lucky to get into the Carparking area by the Beach if you arrive earlier like I intend doing to set up.

Or grab a Bus along Tamaki Drive from the CBD.

Going forward we will play elsewhere..during the week sometimes..as this group grows .

And if you're a professional Petanque player..remember the days you started..Games here today are casual rules with the emphasis on Fun .

I look forward to sharing quality time outside together with you today at Mission Bay.

Toilets here and Coffee Shops and other food choices afterwards for anyone interested.

Any questions or suggestions please contact me directly.

See you on Sunday

Cheers Stephen F.
