Stoicism and the Environment
Details
“All things are parts of one single system, which is called nature; the individual life is good when it is in harmony with nature.” - Zeno of Citium
The current environmental crisis, especially global warming, is not something that the ancient Stoics would have had any experience of. Despite this, there are several useful Stoic ideas that we can draw on to inform our understanding of the ethical challenges presented by man made climate change, not least the central Stoic ideal of living in accordance with nature. For this meeting we will be exploring how Stoic philosophy can help inform a positive relationship with nature and the environment.
We invite you to join us for a lively discussion about Stoic principles and practice, and how they can help us to live a good life. All are welcome, whether you are well versed in Stoicism, a Stoic novice, or are simply curious to learn more.
