What we’re about

Welcome to the Peterborough Walking Meetup Group. We are a friendly and informal group of individuals who enjoy walking in the local countryside. Many people enjoy walking for a variety of reasons, including general wellbeing, fitness, and meeting new people. If this sounds like you, you’re very welcome to join us.
Walks take place throughout the week depending on the availability of our walk organisers, but generally take place most Saturdays and are often more local. On other days, walks may be further afield, longer in duration and mileage, and may involve more hills.
We usually walk at an average pace of around 2.5 mph, which should be manageable for most people. Walks are typically in the region of 8–9 miles and may include uneven or hilly terrain. Basic information such as distance and any particularly relevant features (for example, hilly conditions) is usually included in the walk listing. Participants are responsible for deciding whether a walk is suitable for them. If you have any doubt about your fitness, please seek appropriate medical advice before attending.
We normally stop for a short break, so please bring suitable refreshments and drinks. It is important to stay hydrated, particularly in warm weather, and participants are responsible for bringing what they need.
We aim to keep the group welcoming, friendly, and enjoyable for all. To help manage expectations and ensure common courtesy, the following general guidelines apply.
The group is volunteer-led, and walks are undertaken at participants’ own discretion. Organisers are not professional guides and provide basic information only to help people decide whether a walk is suitable for them.

### General guidelines for participation

Please follow these guidelines for your own safety and the benefit of the group:

  • Please arrive on time, as walks will leave punctually.
  • Check the Meetup website before setting off, as very occasional changes or cancellations may occur.
  • Please update your RSVP if you can no longer attend an event.
  • Wear suitable footwear and clothing for the weather and terrain.
  • Participants are responsible for their own safety and wellbeing, including when walking on roads or crossing railway lines.
  • Please ensure you are fit enough for any walk you are attending. If in doubt, seek appropriate medical advice.
  • Be respectful to other members, members of the public, and public property.
  • Guests are welcome but participate on the same basis as members. The group is for adults only and guests under 18 are not permitted.
  • Dogs are not permitted on group walks.

These guidelines may be updated from time to time to support the continued enjoyment and safe running of the group.
