Escape from Sandy Lake paddle AND BBQ/corn roast.
Details
We had a great time on our previous Sandy Lake paddle. This one will feature an “escape”, through the small creek that leads to Upper Buckhorn Lake.
The creek is initially narrow and shallow. There is a very small beaver dam to portage/cross. (It’s only 6 inches high).
The creek then opens up into some very scenic marshes, that do have many small cedar stumps submerged in the shallow water.
Paddling slowly, and being aware of your path should prevent anyone from falling in the water. (It’s shallow and warm, so at worst you get wet, and teased).
The marshes end at a large under the road culvert, that opens up into Upper Buckhorn Lake. There are a couple of large island in the near distance that we can circumnavigate.
Upon our return from the paddle..it’s a corn roast/BBQ.
I’m listing this as a maximum 20 people, we may have to park excess vehicles at the Sandy Lake Beach Parking Lot.
Note, anyone having a spare kayak is encouraged to bring it along, as we have some flotationally challenged individuals wanting to attend.
(If I have promised anyone a kayak, you will be buoyant).
