This is a wonderful, reasonably easy figure 8, maybe loop hike over varying terrain, 30 minutes north of Peterborough. It is bisected by the Lakehurst Rd. as it runs from Gannon Narrows to Buckhorn. From the parking lot we head south around some fields to find a large Iron Tunnel that heads under the aforesaid Rd., to access the hardwood forest on the East side of the property. Then we head back to hike near a marsh on the north half of the west portion of the Park.
John Earle Chase Memorial Park is a 400-acre site that was farmed by successive members of the Chase family. Ralph and Evelyn Chase were the last two family members who lived on the property. In 1995, they donated the land to Trent Severn Waterway (TSW) in honour of their brother John Earle Chase.
I am meeting Dan in the parking lot on the east side of Anchor Bay Rd., just north of Lakehurst Rd. (Hwy. #37) at 11 am. Anyone wishing to join us is welcome. We will be there with Charlie Brown for about a 2 hour hike. Christmas is coming, we need to work off a few calories in preparation for the gastronomic challenges that face us at the end of 2025.
