a paddle through The Lift Lock
Details
Its back !!! Yes, we are going to repeat last year's
"memorable" paddle from the Canadian Canoe Museum all the way up to Trent University, using the Trent Canal !
For some participants, they get the experience of paddling through not one, but TWO locks ! One of the locks inclues the Liftlock here in Peterborough.
Plan is as follows : Those wishing to rent kayaks, meet at the Peterborough Canoe Museum to get their rental boats. Doors open at 10:00 AM. Availability of kayaks is on a FCFS basis, kayaks cannot be “reserved”.
Those having a kayak, we meet on the water in front of the Peterborough Canoe Museum at 10:30 am.
Please be punctual. The goal is to get to the first lock and move seamlessly. (LiftLock Cruises has a departure at 10:30 am…we want to be in the first lock with their cruise boat)
For anyone not wishing to paddle the full distance, you can launch kayaks at the put in at Canal Road and Parkhill at 12:00 noon.
Some comments, paddling along this route requires some familarity with paddling a kayak. This is not an event for someone who wants to "try paddling a kayak". When entering locks, there will be some mild turbulence. Additionally, in locks there will be motorized boat traffic.
(There will be a safety briefing prior to our entering the first lock)
As much as possible, we will paddle as a cohesive group.
Please make sure if participating that your schedule is free of conflicts that require you to interupt this excursion, all times are approximate.
By signing up to this event, participants acklnowledge that they are solely responsible for their safety and well being.
