Turkey Creek Trail

Details
We'll meet at 8:30 AM in Black Canyon City at the intersection of Old Black Canyon Hwy & Maggie Mine Rd, where we've staged/ended previous runs in the area. After airing down we'll leave for the trail around 8:45 AM. Be sure to top off fuel before arriving at the meet-up location.
Maggie Mine Rd may avoid construction issues at the Bumble Bee exit as it parallels I-17 and eventually joins FR 59, Crown King Rd heading north to Cleator. From Cleator, Turkey Creek Trail winds South toward Bumble Bee thru Dead Cow Gulch & Turkey Creek. The trail passes mining sites & claims and provides excellent desert scenery. At the end of the trail we'll again hit FR 59 south to the intersection with Maggie Mine Rd and follow it to I-17 at Black Canyon City.
Turkey Creek Trail is 9.5 miles long and in the past trail time for that portion of the run has been 3.5 to 5 hours. The trail includes water crossings, smooth river rock, shelf road with off camber spots, switchbacks and plenty of pin striping. The trail has been mostly moderate and at times narrow, rocky, rutted, and washed out. A tippy narrow ledge gives that portion of the trail a difficult rating. As water levels permit the ledge can be bypassed via the creek bed.
The challenges on this trail have been done in a stock Jeep with an experienced driver. No street tires please. Off road tires are needed to navigate steep slopes, wet slippery boulders, loose dirt.
As always, follow standard operating procedure for any 4x4 trip - make sure you have sufficient supplies, water & food for your vehicle, you and all passengers. Bring your tools, recovery gear and tow straps.
