West Payson Area Trails
Details
This will be an exploratory ride with possible turn-arounds or reroutes as we explore terrain that the Phoenix East Valley 4x4 Meetup Group (PEV4X4) has not traveled west of Payson in a LONG TIME. Our last trek in this area between Payson and the Mazatzal Wilderness of the Tonto National Forest was quite scenic featuring a number of interlocking trails, a few mines and an occasional water crossing. Since this is an exploratory event we will likely drive trails somewhat randomly, and the length of the trip is difficult to predict.
We will meet at the parking lot of the Payson airport's Crosswinds Restaurant.
- Those interested in breakfast (not mandatory), can meet at the Crosswinds Restaurant at the Payson Airport around 7:30 AM
- Everyone participating in the trails should be at the airport parking lot by 8:30 AM to get organized for the trails.
- Reminder - Please make sure that your vehicle is fully fueled before arriving at the airport parking lot.
As usual, bring along appropriate survival and extraction equipment and supplies: water for you, passengers & vehicle; tools & recovery gear; clothing & footwear suitable for walking about in the desert; lunch & snacks; and, items for your comfort such as chairs, shade, hats & sun protection.
We encourage people to take photos of the day and upload them to this site for the group to see.
The PEV4x4 club uses the following for communication:
GMRS channel 16 (462.575 MHz) with a DCS privacy code of 16 (Midland and Cobra radios), and
