About us
The group limits us to 10 people signing up. If the spots are "filled" that does not mean anything, just show up and look for us out there.
Howdy! My name is Sylas Brock Jones and I am the organizer of Pflugerville Mixed Sports Club. We are a group that meets every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30/8:00 (times we will be adjusted according to daylights savings time).
We will play a variety of sports, but our main sports will be ultimate frisbee and soccer. Based on what the group wants to play that day we may play ultimate Frisbee soccer, kickball, dodgeball (I'd have to buy 4 more dodgeballs). I like dodgeball you just have to remember the essentials: dodge, duck, dip, dive, and....dodge! We can also play obscure sports or games that y'all may know if they're fun.
Until we have consistent membership for me to make a schedule, we (me and whoever else joins me) will decide on a sport to play that day. We then will set up the appropriate field with cones to play the designated sport. If people come and aren't interested in that sport I hope they will stay and socialize. For example, if we are playing soccer and two people do not enjoy soccer, I hope they will stay and throw the frisbee around.
This group is all about being social, getting exercise, and just enjoying the beautiful parks that Pflugerville has to offer. I'm going to avoid establishing any social activity afterwards (getting coffee, going to eat, etc.), although I will participate in them :) I want to let others contribute to the group with interesting/cool stuff to do. There are so many things to do in the greater Austin area, I know im missing out on cool stuff I would like.
Excitingly, I live at the apartment complex nearby. I would love to occasionally (4 to 6 times a year) have everyone come hangout at the pool! I know we will all be hungry so I will grill some hamburgers, hot dogs, and have chips for y'all (just like when you were a kid at your friends birthday party lol). I might also make my birria tacos (the majority of my friends love them) instead of the burgers. I am a decent cook so I most likely can accommodate if you have food allergies, etc.
This group is 18+ years old group, I do not want to mix in young children and teenagers and risk someone getting hurt. For example: if someone goes up to grab the frisbee, and they land on a kids foot with their cleats on, ouch! While this is a social and community event, competitive and "play to win" attitudes are encouraged, and yes, we will keep score even though this prize is absolutely nothing.
I doubt we will have issue but I do want to preemptively address this. With these sports sometimes when you're going for a deep pass or running down the field in football, people use their hand to "create space" and "attack the frisbee" when its thrown. The technical term is "hand fighting". However, being overtly physical and/or "grabby" is not acceptable and will not be tolerated. We are adults, you know what is appropriate. We will give a warning if we notice excessive/too aggressive use of hands. If you do not stop following the warning(s), group members and I will ask you to leave and not return. Again, I doubt this will be an issue but I am addressing it beforehand just in case.
In the future, I think it would be really awesome if we could have adults with kids come to this event. The kids could play on the smaller field with one or two of the parents chaperoning (if we had enough members we could create a rotating chaperoning /participating schedule for the parents) . I think its an awesome idea since Pflugerville and the surrounding cities have so many young/middle-aged adults with children. In my opinion, having a FREE event for the young families of the greater Pflugerville area would be really awesome for our community. Everything is so expensive now in days. For example: to take two children under 14 (including one parent) to a trampoline place for an 1:30 was $48, even if you brought back the required socks :(
With all that being said, I hope you will come out, get some exercise, socialize, and make some great friends in the Greater Pflugerville area. We are expecting at least 10 people for our first meet up.
Regards,
Sylas Brock Jones
