Hi everyone!
My name is Amanda. I am the mom of a 10-year-old girl with autism and other diagnoses. I live in this area and I wanted to start to get a group together of people that have a similar story and journey that I have with a child with different needs. I thought it is important as many times having a life like this can be very isolating and hard for others to understand or relate. This group is definitely going to be very laid-back, I love for this first group for everyone to sort of just meet each other to mingle and chat. If you want to bring your child or children, please absolutely do so!
For those that are not familiar with Gorgas Park and Roxborough it is right next to Roxborough high school on Ridge Avenue in the ZIP Code 19128. There is parking along Ridge Avenue, they actually just put in new areas to park along Ridge Ave.
The park is an accessible playground, and also a lot of grounds and field-like areas with a baseball field down at the bottom.
I will bring some bottled water, a couple of snacks size packs of different snacks for us, if we have a good number of people, of course.
I’ve been struggling a lot with my own identity and sense of self and purpose with navigating this world and also trying to balance life in general such as work, relationships, family, etc.
I love to form new connections with everyone who would be interested in this!
I’d also be open to hearing about other areas we could meet or even a place that just parents could go to to have coffee or a drink and just talk with each other as adults. I most definitely want to have events that do include the children though because I know how hard it can be fine childcare and I don’t want people to miss out because of that.
I truly hope you are able to join!
