Boy Breaking Glass: Professional Choral Concert
Details
Enjoy a concert with Elevation, an all-professional, intentionally diverse vocal ensemble whose performances fuse traditional, classical choral music with jazz, Hip-Hop, R&B, storytelling, and spoken word. Led by nationally recognized conductor Arreon A. Harley-Emerson, Elevation believes the vocal arts are more than just singing and that they include the many ways the human voice is used in creative and artistic expressions.
This concert program, Boy Breaking Glass takes its name and inspiration from Gwendolyn Brooks’ searing poem, "Boy Breaking Glass," about a young Black boy who breaks a window, not out of vandalism, but as an act of protest and creation. The shattered glass becomes his art, a demand to be seen and heard in a world that has erased him. Through music that spans genres and idioms, we ask: What might it mean to build a future from the fragments? To lift every voice—not in support of the status quo, but in pursuit of justice, belonging, and joy.
This concert kicks off a tour that will culminate in a headlining concert at a nationally renowned choral conference! Although the venue is a church and a portion of the music comes from sacred traditions, the concert and the ensemble are secular in nature and have curated this program to be relevant to audiences of all backgrounds.
Sam Barge works for Elevate Vocal Arts and will perform in Elevation! Tickets are $21.40. You can purchase tickets here.
