Let's help out with trail maintenance in Valley Forge National Park! We'll be volunteering to help maintain the Chapel Trail. This event is organized through the Appalachian Mountain Club and officially starting at 8:30am, but I'll get there ten minutes early so that we can form up as a group ahead of time.

Please review the details and register at https://activities.outdoors.org/s/oc-activity/a5UVX0000013w3h2AA/act00019810 before registering here!

This event will consist of a moderate paced hike along the Park’s Chapel Trail. We will prune back vegetation intruding on the trail corridor and scout the trail for fallen trees/branches. We will remove smaller impediments and will otherwise report larger issues to the Park staff for removal/remediation. We will also collect litter/trash.

The group will meet at the Washington Headquarters Parking Lot which is located off of Route 23. There ARE public restrooms available at the meet site.

The park will make available protective eye wear/ear protection/hard hats as necessary, as well as all of the necessary tools required for the expected work to be accomplished. I recommend bringing the following yourself:

  • Water
  • Snacks
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect Repellent
  • Weather-appropriate layers
  • Sturdy shoes/boots
  • Work gloves

As required by Pennsylvania law, chldren under 18 years of age may NOT participate in these events unless they are accompanied by their parent or their legally appointed guardian. All participants will be required to sign liability release agreements provided by AMC and by the Park. No pets, please. All trail work sessions will be subject to cancellation when weather conditions require.

Difficulty rating: 4 - Moderate ("Fitness level and/or past experience to sustain the activity at a moderate pace is required. Expect to be active up to 4-6 hours per day. Reasonable breaks in the action.")

NOTICE: By attending an event you are agreeing that YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY AT ALL TIMES. No member of the group EXCEPT YOURSELF can be held responsible for any damages, accidents, or liabilities. Please prioritize safe traveling after the event.
