Is It Ever Morally Wrong To Forgive?
Details
October's will be conducted by Bro. Anthony Sokol as he asks the question, "Is It Ever Morally Wrong To Forgive?"
Synopsis:
Forgiveness, a concept often explored in psychology and theology, can be examined through a rich philosophical lens. In this MPS discussion, we will briefly explore the many perspectives on forgiveness, which include deontological, virtue ethics, existentialist, social contract, political, psychological, and therapeutic. As debates on forgiveness still exist today, we will explore the central tension that exists between the act of forgiving and the pursuit of justice, self-forgiveness, the unforgivable, collective forgiveness, forgiveness and truth, forgiveness, and personal identity, and forgiveness in Freemasonry.
Mission Statement:
The Masonic Philosophical Society embraces the concept of learning, not for school, but for life, and believes that all men, who seek it, deserve access to continued education. We further embrace the concept of a community environment where ideas can be shared and debated in an open forum. From the seven liberal arts to the arcane, we seek to gain and share the knowledge that is the legacy of mankind.
