A Handbook for New Stoics
Details
Come join the Philly Stoa as we begin our journey through A Handbook for New Stoics, a practical guide designed to help people apply Stoic philosophy to the challenges of everyday life. We will review the basic structure of the book and outline the core Stoic ideas that ground its approach. Participants will also work together to determine the best way to move through the handbook as a group. The book bridges classical Stoic texts with concrete exercises that cultivate sound judgment, resilience, and emotional steadiness.
This series is part of an ongoing partnership between the Philly Stoa and the Philadelphia Ethical Society. The session invites participants to help shape how the group engages with the book, whether through a shared weekly practice, a discussion-driven reading, or a hybrid format. The goal is to create a reflective and supportive space for practicing philosophy as a lived discipline, bringing together Stoic practice and Ethical Culture’s shared commitment to moral development, thoughtful dialogue, and practical ethics in daily life.
