Scammers are more prevalent, and more convincing, than ever. In this presentation, Jon Michael shifts focus from engaging with believers in the paranormal to practical protection against fraud. Drawing on his background in computer engineering, social engineering, and cybersecurity, he'll walk us through the most common scams today, including phone calls, emails, texts, and online traps.
You’ll learn how these scams work, how to spot the warning signs, and what steps you can take to protect yourself and those around you. With real-world examples and clear, accessible explanations, this talk offers tools you can use immediately to stay safer in a connected world.
About the Speaker:
- Jon Michael is a Computer Engineer at a large bank, with an education in Cybersecurity. He also hangs out with the hackers of DefCon919 on a monthly basis, practicing social engineering and computer hacking techniques. With extensive experience in IT infrastructure and a keen focus on digital security, Jon actively promotes critical thinking and skepticism as essential tools against misinformation. In his social media channel, "Jon Michael Has Questions," he explores conspiracy theories, paranormal claims, and common misconceptions, emphasizing skeptical inquiry and evidence based analysis.
