**What is "Skeptical Inquirer Presents"?**
Skeptical Inquirer is a bimonthly American magazine published by the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry dedicated to promoting science and reason. They've recently introduced "Skeptical Inquirer Presents" - live online presentations from leading experts in science, skepticism, medicine, media, activism, and advocacy, all devoted to the cause of advancing science over pseudoscience, media literacy over conspiracy theories, and critical thinking over magical thinking.

Every two weeks, Skeptical Inquirer Presents will bring you a new live event, emceed by the brilliant and hilarious comedian Leighann Lord, co-host of the Point of Inquiry podcast. And it’s all happening from the comfort of your laptop (or any other screen), wherever you are in the world, because big ideas can’t be contained in conference halls.

Carl Sagan famously said that alien civilizations may be alien in their biology, culture, and language, but we are likely to have physics and math in common with them. Today, many physicists are confident that alien intelligence will do physics much the way we do and that we can use it as a mental bridge if they ever visit. Such a tempting thought, however, requires skeptical inquiry...

Join us on **Thursday, November 13,** at **7:00 p.m. ET** for a *Skeptical Inquirer Presents* livestream with physicist **Daniel Whiteson**. When aliens arrive, could we find common ground with them? Could we use physics to establish communication? Do aliens even have to do science to be technological? Whiteson will address these and other pressing questions—with a more skeptical view than is traditionally taken—featured in his new book, *Do Aliens Speak Physics?*, aided by clever drawings from coauthor Andy Warner.

**About the Speaker:**
\* **Daniel Whiteson** is a professor of physics at UC Irvine, researching particle physics at CERN's Large Hadron Collider and hoping to figure it all out before the aliens arrive. Whiteson is a co-creator of "Elinor Wonders Why", and animated educational show on PBS Kids. He is the cohost of a top-rated science podcast, *Daniel and Kelly’s Extraordinary Universe*, and the coauthor of several books about physics for the general public, including *We Have No Idea: A Guide to the Unknown Universe* (2017, with Jorge Cham) and his latest, *Do Aliens Speak Physics?* (2025, with Andy Warner).
