About us
Philly Trail Wanderers is a group for Philly area hikers who want to explore the outdoors with other hiking enthusiasts. If you're new to the Philly metro area or Delaware/Lehigh Valley and want to find all the best hiking spots, or you're an experienced hiker just looking for a group to adventure with you're welcome to come along and enjoy the journey! We regularly organize trips of different difficulties around the Philly area. Check out our upcoming events. If you're hankering to get outside then come join the Philly Trail Wanderers for some outdoor exploration!
We're all adults, so the hiking pace is totally up to you. Nobody gets left behind and there's nothing wrong with taking your time. We organize hikes of different difficulties so depending on your fitness and comfort zone you can find a hike to keep pace with. This is a no judgement group! Everyone is here to get outside and have fun.
We schedule events around the Philly area. Most of these are not accessible by public transit, so transportation is the responsibility of the hiker.
Inclement weather notice: We hike rain (or snow) or shine. In the case of severe and unsafe weather conditions the event host will inform event members no later than 12 hours prior (the night before) to canceling an event. Predicting weather is difficult, and the inconvenience it causes is understandable, but its better safe than sorry when it comes to getting stuck in a dangerous situation!
This is a group for hiking and outdoor enthusiasts. However, organizers are not professional medical or outdoors personnel. You assume the risk inherent in hiking and outdoors activity by joining this meetup. Be responsible when participating in a meetup and mindful of your own ability level.

Delaware Water Gap AT to Mt. Minsi (moderate/difficult)
Parking for Appalachian Trail to Mount Minsi, Roseto, PA, USThe Delaware Water Gap has two sides, after all. We'll be exploring the less heavily visited PA side of the gap. The Delaware River bisects the Blue Mountain ridge here creating sheer 1000ft cliffs, and many opportunities for views of the gap, river and Pocono Plateau to the north. Often considered one of the most dramatic natural features in the Mid-Atlantic. The Gap is now a national recreation area and series of state parks after an ill-fated attempt to dam the Delaware River. The long protected corridor which runs up the river from the gap and along the Kittatinny Mountain is one of the most scenically recognized places outside the city of Philadelphia.
We will be meeting up at the AT parking lot off Mountain Rd. in the village of Del Water Gap, right off PA 611. Meet up is at 9:00. Make sure to arrive on time as once we start I won't be able to check my phone for anyone running late. Please keep your RSVP current. If you cannot attend please change your RSVP.
This hike is a moderate to difficult 5 mile loop. Mt Minsi offers around 900ft of elevation gain over the course of about 2 miles. Portions of the trail will be steep and rocky. Wear appropriate footwear and ensure that you are physically up to the climb. I will not set a stiff pace but you must be able to complete the ascent. As always bring water and some extra calories. Plan for around 4 hours of hiking with breaks.
Link to the AllTrails map and trail description. Note we will not follow the exact route on AllTrails.
