Appalachian Trail - State Game lands #110 - Port Clinton, Pa (Challenging)

Enjoy the serenity among the mountain laurels, hardwood forest, including mountain views north and south and maybe even some wildlife.
Turkey vultures could be even circle above waiting for a casualty! For this is the unofficial "Buzzard Capital of the Northeast"
This is a place where hikers see Pennsylvania three feet at a time!
There will be the usual angle turners and toe biters !
Will need to look up occasionally to enjoy the scenery.

This event will have about 10 miles of varied trail conditions with about 2500' feet of accumulating elevation, that the determined enthusiast will appreciate.
We'll start with an invigorating 1000' climb over 2 miles up Blue Mountain on the AT that will surely wake you up. All while enjoying the rocks underfoot to Auburn Lookout. After taking in the views, we'll head back to the Stony Run access to go down the mountain for about 2.5 miles of decent with loose rocks, which includes approx a 300' steep section that will have a 30% slope that is reminiscent of our old friend "Leg Destroyer".
Onward to the "Chutes" and the bridge over the Schuylkill River on the Rail Trail. After milling about we'll head back to the parking lot via the Schuylkill Rail Trail for a leisurely stroll of about 3.5 miles.
While enjoying our surroundings we'll need to be alert for Pumkinhead, who is known to lurk about the woods.
We will be starting at 9am from the parking area in Port Clinton by the baseball field.
The trail is rocky on the mountain ridge so wear appropriate footwear. Poles may help on the way up and down. Wear layers as you will sweat and need to add/remove layers when appropriate. As always bring water and a snack.
Will be on Game Lands, wear orange and or bright colors.
Hike will be rescheduled if there is any inclement weather.
No facilities are available other than a well placed tree.
Will not be able to check for messages once event starts.
