Lehigh Gorge Loop (difficult)

Details
Hike up the scenic Lehigh Gorge in Carbon County near Jim Thorpe. Glen Onoko is known for its stunning waterfalls and mountain streams. Due to numerous injuries on the trail, we won't be climbing the falls, but the views from the canyon rim are equally impressive. This part of Carbon County contains some of the most interesting trails and scenic vistas in the Poconos region of NE PA.
We will meet up by 9am at the Lehigh Gorge parking area off the Lehigh Gorge Trail just north of Jim Thorpe, PA and next to the Lehigh Gorge Glen Onoko boat ramp on the river (Lehigh Gorge State Park Trail, Jim Thorpe, PA 18229). We will set out at 9am. Make sure you arrive on time and ready to start at 9am. Once we begin hiking I will not be able to check my phone for anyone arriving late.
This hike is a difficult 6 mile loop with about 1400ft of elevation gain. The ascent to the canyon rim is strenuous and steep involving 1000 feet of elevation gain in about a mile. The trail is very rocky in places and requires some rock scrambling. Come prepared wearing appropriate footwear. Trekking poles may be helpful for some as well. Bring plenty of water and some extra calories to keep you going. Plan on spending about 3-4 hours on the trail, including breaks.
