See the famous Delaware Water Gap in all its splendor. Considered one of the most impressive natural features in the Philly region, the gap is the centerpiece of Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. This hike will take in some of the best points of interest around the park including the outstanding views from Mount Tammany, Sunfish Pond and Dunnfield Creek.
We will meet up in the Red Dot Trail parking lot off I-80 at 8:00 am (Kittatinnies Region, Hardwick Township, NJ 07825). Make sure to arrive on time. Once we start I cannot guarantee phone reception and will not be able to check Meetup.
NOTE: There are TWO parking lots next to one another. We are starting from the Red Dot parking lot. If you park in the AT lot you will have to walk a short distance between lots to meet us.
This hike is a more difficult 11 mile loop with 1700 feet of elevation gain in total. The ascent of Mount Tammany is strenuous and features a climb of about 1100 feet in elevation gain in 1 mile. The descent along Dunnfield Creek involves several stream crossings. The trail is rocky and sections will require boulder scrambling. You should be comfortable with your fitness levels before joining as I will keep a steady pace to ensure we finish in time. Be sure to bring plenty of water, some calories to keep you going and appropriate footwear. Trekking poles may also be helpful. We will take a few breaks at key landmarks (Mt. Tammany summit, Sunfish Pond, Dunnfield Creek waterfall).
Plan to hike for 6-7 hours with a few breaks.
