In 1763 the British surveyor/astronomers Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon came to the colonies to settle a dispute between Pennsylvania and Maryland. The border they established which would take their name as the Mason-Dixon Line, and define the early history of the United States, was surveyed from a reference point in Pennsylvania: The Stargazer's Stone, the meridian line due north of their observatory at a nearby farm. The stone and the land around forms the center of ChesLen Preserve, the largest tract of protected land in Chester County preserving the centuries old rural character of the county.

This will be a 5 mile loop over easy rolling countryside along fields and through woods. This is an easier hike. There are some ups and downs. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring water and some extra calories for the day. Depending on the weather the trail may be muddy.

Meet up at 9am at the ChesLen Preserve parking lot off Cannery Road (1199 Cannery Rd, Coatesville, PA 19320). Make sure to arrive in time to start. Once we start on the hike I will not check my phone for anyone arriving late.

Hike will cancel from severe weather.
