5th Annual Philly Trail Wanderers Winter Leg Destroyer Hike (difficult)
Details
It might be cold, but you'll warm up fast scrambling 1000 vertical feet in 0.5 miles! Leg Destroyer plots a course straight up the Blue Mountain ridge above Port Clinton, PA. At the top is an easy ridgeline walk to a northward view from Auburn Lookout. The route down along the AT is just as steep but at least gravity will be helping us (although maybe helping a little too much).
This is a more difficult 6 mile hike with 1000 feet of elevation change in about half a mile. It's a stiff climb. The trail is rocky as well so wear appropriate footwear. Wear layers as you will sweat and need to add/remove layers when appropriate. Wear moisture wicking materials or you will get soaked and be freezing/miserable. This is a winter hike, so micro spikes or traction aids may be recommended as conditions warrant. As always bring water and a snack.
We will be starting at 9am from the parking area in Port Clinton by the baseball field. As we will be on state game lands be sure to wear a piece of blaze orange or brightly colored clothing.
