The Pinnacle,Pulpit Rock Loop-Hamburg,PA (Difficult)
Details
Considered one of the best loop hikes in the area!
The Pinnacle is sometimes regarded as having the finest views along the Appalachian Trail in PA. On the way is Pulpit Rock, with fine views to the east, the observatory of the Lehigh Valley Astronomical Society, and a descent to the Hamburg reservoir in the Furnace Creek valley there's plenty of scenery to take in.
This will be a more difficult 9 mile loop hike with around 1200 feet in total elevation gain.
Will be keeping a steady pace to the Pulpit, then if anyone would like a shorter 4 mile loop, can return via the paved access road.
There will be a stop at the Pulpit overlook, a longer break at Pinnacle overlook, then proceed onto the fire road, then descend onto the Spring trail that has its own scenic challenges.
The ascent can be strenuous and the trail is very rocky in places, which requires a good footing.
There will be rocks! Ankle turners and toe biters!
Note:
Winter weather can be unpredictable.
Wear appropriate footwear. Traction device, poles, hat, gloves are recommended to carry as weather dictates.
