It may seem like an impossible task but most of our trail systems were built, and continue to be maintained by volunteer effort. The Appalachian Trail was cut and maintained largely through the work of local hiking clubs, many of which still maintain sections of the trail today. One such club, the Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club can trace its founding in the early 20th century to a rock outcropping atop Blue Mountain in Berks County. Eagle's Nest is one of the quieter vistas along the AT, and best visited in the colder months.

This will be a more difficult hike up the Tom Lowe Trail and the AT to Eagle's Nest vista, returning along the Sand Springs Trail. Together this will make for an approximately 9-10 mile loop with ~1200 feet of elevation gain. Sections of the trail are very rough, rocky and steep.

We will be starting at 9am from the PA SGL 110 parking area on Northkill Road. Ensure you are on time. Once we start hiking I will not be able to check for anyone arriving late.
