PA AT Blue Mountain Ridge (moderate/difficult)
Details
Wear good shoes.
Introduce yourself to the Appalachian Trail in Pennsylvania. This hike takes in the terrain of the Blue Mountain ridge typical of the AT through PA. Called "Rocksylvania" for a reason, there are many rocks of all shapes and sizes to step, scramble and trip over on this section of trail between Bake Oven Knob and Lehigh Gap. The knob is one of the best vistas along the AT in PA with panoramic views to the north, east and south.
We will complete a 10 mile route using the Appalachian Trail and looping around the South Trail. These trails are very rocky and partially exposed. This will be a moderate to more difficult hike depending on your fitness level. We will gain around 1000 feet of elevation across all the little ups and downs but the most difficult aspect of this hike will be the rocks. Wear appropriate footwear and bring some extra calories and plenty of water. There is a lot of open terrain as well, so a hat and sunscreen are also a good idea.
Parking will be at the Bake Oven Knob AT Trailhead (40.74469206023776, -75.73817808460004). We start at 9AM. Make sure you are on time. Once we start hiking I will not be checking my phone for anyone arriving late.
Hike will cancel from severe weather.
