Sunfish Pond Garvey Springs and Douglas Trails Loop (difficult)
Details
Hike to the picturesque Sunfish Pond and Mount Mohican ridgeline along the Appalachian Trial in NJ. This is one of many great hikes in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area. The pond is one of the first glacial features that northbound AT hikers encounter on their way to Maine, left behind by retreating glaciers at the end of the last ice age.
This hike is a more difficult 7.5 mile loop with around 1400 feet of elevation gain. The ascent up the Garvey Springs Trail is strenuous and rather steep, as well as rocky. The shore of Sunfish Pond is also quite rocky and requires some boulder scrambling. Wear appropriate footwear. Make sure to bring water and some extra calories.
Meet up at the Douglas Parking Lot Trailhead off Old Mine Road (41.01311615314192, -75.08252951232265). We set off at 9am. Make sure you are on time to get ready to start at 9:30AM. Once we start hiking I will not be checking my phone for anyone arriving late.
Event will cancel for severe weather.
