Mount Tammany, Sunfish Pond and Dunnfield Creek Loop (Difficult)

Considered one of the most impressive natural features along the AT in PA and NJ, the Delaware Water Gap drops over 1000ft from the ridge of the Kittatinny Mountain to the surface of the Delaware River below. Along our route we'll pass scenic Sunfish Pond, one of the first conspicuous glacial features hikers encounter heading north on the AT. These features are just a couple of the scenic sites of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area which preserves the historic woodlands and farmland of the upper Delaware Valley, and offers lots of potential activities to the interested hiker

We will meet up in the Farview Trail parking lot off Old Mine Rd. at 8:00 AM (GPS 40.98888606250252, -75.12755951527886). Make sure to arrive on time. Once we start I cannot guarantee phone reception and will not be checking to see if anyone is arriving late.

This hike is a more difficult 13 mile loop with 1900 feet of elevation gain in total. We will use a more gradual ascent of the Kittatinny Mountain ridge but sections of the trail may still be strenuous. The route along Dunnfield Creek involves several stream crossings. The trail here is very rocky and sections will require minor boulder scrambling. You should be comfortable with your fitness levels before joining as I will keep a steady pace to ensure we finish in time. Be sure to bring plenty of water, some calories to keep you going and appropriate footwear. Trekking poles may also be helpful. We will take a few breaks at key landmarks (Mt. Tammany summit and Sunfish Pond).
