Upcoming Events Summer 2011

Greetings Philly Hikers!

Please check out our calendar, available on our home page, or here: for events you may find of interest. (The calendar will be updated periodically. Some events are listed as notes either because I will not be able to attend but wanted to let you know about them, or because they are sponsored by other groups). New ideas are always welcome (especially if you are willing to follow up yourself), but keep in mind that our focus is local, especially transit-friendly. Please remember that participation is always at your own risk, and remember to dress appropriate to the weather. Hiking boots are recommended, but usually not required, and bringing water (&/or snacks) along is almost always a good idea. Tipping your hike leader ($1 or $2) is considerate but usually not mandatory. I keep track of more substantial support as $10 yearly dues. Your donations help me to offset the cost of maintaining the website, as well as researching future hikes.

In addition to the events already on our calendar, more hikes will be scheduled soon; some possibilities include Manayunk Towpath and Brewery, Tinicum Natural Wildlife Refuge, and Chamounix Plateau. Keep in mind that although we are not a "remedial" hiking group, we're not trying to set any speed records either. This group is not for everyone: we look for a balance between the three elements of exercise, getting to know each other, and getting to know our environment (natural and man-made).

Thanks and see you on the trails!
