DYL : Designing the Life you Want
Details
In this month’s Design Your Life meetup, we will be discussing core concepts from Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans. This book applies design thinking principles to help build a more meaningful and fulfilling life. It uses practical tools like prototyping, experimentation, and reframing to help people navigate career and life choices, emphasizing that a well-designed life is creative, productive, and constantly evolving, with the core idea that the only failure is settling for an unhappy life.
Key Concepts & Tools
- Design Thinking:
Focusing on problem-solving and iteration.
- Prototyping:
Testing out new life paths through small, low-risk experiments rather than making huge, irreversible decisions.
- Wayfinding:
Building a compass for your life by defining your "Lifeview" (what you believe about life) and "Workview" (what you believe about work) and finding alignment.
- Mindsets:
Adopting mindsets like curiosity, bias to action, reframing, awareness, and radical collaboration.
- The Four Dimensions:
Reflecting on and designing for Health, Work, Play, and Love.
- Good Time Journal:
Tracking activities that make you feel energized and engaged to identify what truly matters.
