What we’re about
Welcome to Philosophical Minds Zurich! We are a vibrant community of thinkers dedicated to exploring the rich tapestry of philosophical thought. While our roots lie in the timeless wisdom of the Stoics, we are passionate about delving into a wide array of philosophies and engaging with the ideas of diverse thinkers across history.
Beyond intellectual exchange, we're committed to practically applying insights in our lives. If you place a high value on the sharing and exploration of ideas within a supportive community, then this is the place for you.

See all- On Ownership or Property - John LockeKirche Bühl, ZürichCHF 12.00
Join us for an engaging discussion on one of philosophy's most influential theories of property!
John Locke (1632-1704) was an English philosopher whose ideas on natural rights, government, and property profoundly shaped modern political thought and influenced the founding principles of liberal democracies. His Second Treatise of Government remains one of the most important works in political philosophy, offering groundbreaking insights into the origins and limits of legitimate political authority.
We will look at topics, such as: How do we acquire legitimate property rights? Can property theories extend to intellectual property or property of intangible assets? Is there a difference between property and ownership? Can one own another person? And what about self-ownership?
Please be mindful not to turn the evening into a political rally.
Recommended preparation
- You can read these two chapters of John Locke's Second Treatise of Government (14 pages, the annotations are not from the host)
- Alternatively, or additionally, you can watch this video containing an introduction and short debate on John Locke's work (25 min).
For Philosophical Minds Zurich theme events in general:
At our theme events, we begin with a brief topic introduction, followed by engaging discussions in small groups. It’s all about conversation, not just listening. Also, please note, we keep the atmosphere relaxed and informal—there’s no pressure to speak in front of anyone.Important: When you register for the event, please commit to it and don't be a NO SHOW. Presumably, when the ancient philosophers decided to go to an event, they kept to it. ;)
Payment: You can pay at the venue (Twint/Revolut/Cash). Thus, if you want to register at Meetup just click attend - no more needed ;).
We look forward to seeing you.
