Cut Through or Think It Through? — Exploring Simplicity & Complexity

Details
In a world obsessed with speed, clarity, and getting things done — is there still value in slowing down, sitting with questions, and embracing complexity?
This tension is ancient:
→ The Stoics believed in simplicity, decisive action, and aligning life with nature’s flow.
→ Socrates refused to act without asking, and re-asking; what it all meant.
→ Buddhism teaches non-attachment and present action.
→ Systems thinkers and depth psychologists warn: if you oversimplify, you miss the whole.
So… which mindset leads to wisdom?
Which one do you live by? and which one do you admire?
In this session of Philosophical Minds Zurich, we’ll explore two fundamental approaches to living and thinking:
• One that values simplicity, efficiency, and forward momentum.
• One that values complexity, introspection, and multidimensional insight.
This isn’t about who’s right — it’s about what emerges when both perspectives sit at the same table.
Optional Preparation:
Read this short article: Simplicity vs. Complexity by Vandita Manyam
What to Expect:
- A short intro to frame the discussion
- Enaging conversations in small groups (4–5 people)
- Open space for questioning, challenging, and shifting perspectives
Important: When you register for the event, please commit to it and don't be a NO SHOW. Presumably, when the ancient philosophers decided to go to an event, they kept to it.
We look forward to seeing you.
