Oxford-Style Debate: Is Happiness a Poor Goal?

This evening we will run an Oxford-style discussion — a structured debate with a clear motion, two sides, and a vote.

Motion: "This House believes that happiness is a poor goal for a human life."

How it works:
- We open with a short briefing on the Oxford format (no prior knowledge needed).
- The room votes once at the start and once at the end — you may change your mind.
- Two sides: Proposition (for the motion) and Opposition (against). You choose a side; nobody is forced to speak from the floor if they prefer to listen and vote.
- Short timed speeches, then open floor, then a closing vote.

The aim is sharper thinking, not winning. We will test whether chasing happiness helps or hinders a good life.

No reading required. Bring an argument you are willing to abandon.

Location: Kirche Bühl, Goldbrunnenstrasse 54. We meet at the venue.
