Is the Media the Message ... or not?

Join Us for a Thought-Provoking Discussion!
At our first gathering in November, we had a lively, fun, and engaging conversation. Many of us walked away feeling a bit more Nietzschean—(of course only because we wanted to be Nietzschean and certainly not to please anyone!)
Now, let's keep the momentum going! For our next meeting, the group selected the following two episodes:
- Episode #148: On Media Part 1 - Manufacturing Consent
- Episode #149: On Media Part 2 - Marshall McLuhan
While these episodes are a bit of a departure from pure philosophy, they are highly relevant to the epistemological crisis we face today. I believe the structure of media is a root cause of much of the craziness in the world, making it a worthy topic for meaningful discussion.
How to Prepare:
- Listen to the episodes on Spotify or your preferred podcast platform.
- For transcripts and more information, visit the podcast's website: Philosophize This!
Optional Reading (Not Required):
- Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman, which I found useful.
- Understanding Media by Marshall McLuhan (I just borrowed it from the library and plan to read it before our meeting).
All you really need to participate is to listen to the podcasts and bring your ideas, curiosity, and open mind.
Please note I have limited the number for attendance. I have found a smaller group allows all to participate meaningfully. First come, first served.
Look for the bust of Socrates on the table—that’s where you’ll find us ... thinking big thoughts.
See you there!
