Every first Sunday of the month, Ronald Green hosts a discussion attended by people from many countries. We discuss a range of philosophical issues that may include history, science, art, psychology, sociology, and more. The mix of international attendees and ideas from various countries makes for lively (and sometimes controversial) discussions.
The meetings are for the curious open to new ideas and willing to share. And also for those who just want to listen.
This time we will discuss the notion of "alternative facts", once thought of laughably paradoxical, but nowadays becoming circumstantially acceptable.
How can there be an alternative fact? A fact is typically understood as something that is true, objective, and independent of opinion.
Are facts eternal? Are they identifiable?
Philosophy, science, the arts revolve around "facts".
Our discussion will delve into what a fact is. Knowledge, reality, truth, epistemology... If there can be alternative facts, then perhaps there are no facts (?) If we can't rely on facts existing as part of the world, is there nothing that we can rely on?
Very much looking forward to having you joining us.
