We kindly ask attendees to pay $5 to attend to help with MeetUp subscription costs & in-person venue costs. This is not mandatory, but if you are a regular member it would be appreciated.
We will discuss Epicurus' view of pleasure, virtue and death. Questions to ponder:
- What do you think about Epicurus' understanding of 'pleasure'?
- Do you think Epicurus solves the problem of Death?
- Do you agree that free choice is essential to the good life?
- Does being morally 'virtuous' help us live the Good Life?
If you get the chance, in preparation you may consider and compare Epicurus' views with Stoicism, Cynicism, Aristotle's Virtue Ethics, and the modern Hedonism of Jeremy Bentham.
About the Presenter: Nicholas Merange graduated with a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Philosophy and Geography in 2012. He has facilitated many philosophy discussions in various community philosophy groups including Socrates Cafe and Philosophy Circle.
Hope to see you there!
