What if philosophy weren’t confined to texts and arguments, but practiced as a method for examining our own thinking, attention, and decision-making?

This session explores how reflective practices, especially writing, can function as philosophical tools. Using Julia Cameron’s concept of morning pages as a case study, we’ll look at how structured, unfiltered writing can be understood through philosophical lenses—from Socratic self-examination to contemporary philosophy of mind. Rather than treating writing as a channel to external wisdom, we’ll ask how it helps externalize cognition, reduce self-deception, and create space for insight.

Together, we’ll explore questions such as:

  • What do we mean by “source” when we talk about creativity or insight?
  • Is it something external, or an emergent process of the mind?
  • How does writing alter attention, agency, and self-understanding?
