The Essence of Friendship: Philosophical Reflections at the National Gallery

Details

Celebrate the Beauty of Friendship contemplating it!
Join us this month as we explore the philosophy of FRIENDSHIP through the masterpieces housed in the National Gallery of Art.

From Aristotle to Cicero, philosophers have pondered the meaning and value of friendship: is it a virtue, a need, a gift, or a mirror of the self? This is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on who your true friends are, to test your frienship virtues, and to make new ones!

The conversation will be guided by a lecturer from The Catholic University of America. Come ready to walk, observe, and engage in thoughtful dialogue.

Five recommendations:

  1. Reflect Beforehand: Before coming, take a moment to consider how deep are your relationships with others.
  2. Be on Time! Meet us at 10:15 a.m. at the National Gallery (West Building) inside by the cloakroom of the main entrance (ground floor -- 6th Street and Constitution Avenue NW).
  3. Hearing Devices will be provided for those who want. We recommend bringing wired headphones or earbuds to connect with these devices for better audio quality.
  4. Tips Welcome: This is a free event, but tips are welcome. All contributions will go toward helping poor children in Africa (Kenya).
  5. Optional Coffee Discussion: For those interested, we will have coffee in the same building afterwards to continue discussing these topics.
