An open philosophical discussion in nature !

This discussion will explore the core ideas of Taoism, one of China’s most enduring philosophical traditions. Rather than approaching Taoism as an abstract system, we will meet outdoors—among plants, paths, and open space—to explore how Taoist wisdom emerges naturally from observing the world as it is.

Together, we will reflect on teachings associated with great Chinese sages such as:

  • Laozi (Lao Tzu) – traditionally credited with the Tao Te Ching, the foundational text of Taoism
  • Zhuangzi (Chuang Tzu) – master of paradox, humour, and philosophical storytelling
  • Liezi – known for vivid illustrations of spontaneity, fate, and harmony with nature

### We discuss Taoist principles such as:

  • Tao (The Way) – the underlying order and flow of reality
  • Wu Wei – non-forcing, effortless action, and alignment with natural processes
  • Ziran – naturalness and spontaneity
  • Yin and Yang – balance, complementarity, and change
  • Simplicity, humility, and living lightly within the world

Some of the questions we may explore include:

  • What does it mean to live in accordance with the Tao in modern life?
  • Is Wu Wei passivity, or a deeper form of intelligent action?
  • Can order arise without control?
  • What can nature teach us that abstract reasoning cannot?
  • How does Taoism challenge ideas of progress, productivity, and ambition?
  • Is wisdom found through knowledge—or through unlearning?
