What Should We Do With Bad People? **NEW TRIAL VENUE**

Details

Punishment, forgiveness, rehabilitation—what’s justice really for?

Whether it’s petty theft or serious harm, we all have instincts about how “bad” behaviour should be dealt with. But what’s the real purpose of justice? Is it about retribution—making someone pay for what they’ve done? Is it about protecting society from future harm? Or is it ultimately about helping people change?

This month's Philosophy in Pubs meetup will explore the moral foundations of justice. Should we prioritise rehabilitation over punishment? Can all wrongdoers be redeemed—or are some acts unforgivable? Is our justice system fair, or shaped by culture, class, and power? And deeper still: what makes someone “bad” in the first place?

As always, expect a lively, informal atmosphere with small-group conversations and plenty of differing views. Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular, you’re warmly welcome—no background in philosophy needed, just an open mind and a curious spirit.
