Science Coffee Hour: Marie Curie - Her life, her discoveries, her legacy
Details
The inspiration for this topic came from the recent lecture at the Linda Hall Library by the author of the book "The Elements of Marie Curie" by Dava Sobel.
Come and join us and let's talk about Marie Curie. Born Maria Skłodowska in Warsaw on November 7, 1867, Marie moved to Paris in 1891 to study physics, chemistry and math at the University of Paris, where she earned two degrees. There she met Pierre Curie and the couple set up a joint laboratory in a basement. Working with radioactive elements, that now more than 100 years after their discoveries, the couple's notebooks are still so radioactive they have to be kept in lead-lined boxes and handled only while wearing protective clothing.
