THIS WEEK: I have argued that the fundamental problems of consciousness must be resolved in terms of value, as the will to value, leading to a certain independence or sufficiency of value. But what is a sufficiency of value? We can say that sufficiencies of value, are ‘value states’ like moral fortitude, magnanimity, love and self-esteem. But the concept of value itself is neglected, misunderstood and subject to superficial categories like family or even perspectival values. Yet the four states of cognition, affect, will and value can be compared and contrasted against each other, and affect states exhibit forms of sufficiency that can also be compared and contrasted with ‘value sufficiency’.
