THIS WEEK: I argue that the fundamental problems of consciousness must be resolved in terms of value, as the will to value, leading to a certain independence or sufficiency of value. But what is a sufficiency of value? We can say that sufficiencies of value, are ‘value states’ like moral fortitude, magnanimity, love and self-esteem. But the concept of value itself is neglected, misunderstood and subject to superficial categories like family or even perspectival values. Can a phenomenology of the structures of consciousness and value provide a more explicit account and show how a sufficiency of value does resolve the fundamental problems of consciousness?
