Ego vs the Self

There are small battles happening inside of us each moment - between weakness and courage, between pride and clarity, between kindness and a hardened heart. But someone could point out that these battles are fundamentally just one battle. A fight between two entities - the ego and the self. This battle is frequently cast as an opposition - between the good and the bad. It also presents a human being as inherently divided - split up between the two warring parts. But is this the real relationship between the self and the ego? Could their roles and duties be of a different sort? In this Philosophy Salon, we will look at our selves and our egos, step outside the battle, and see if both are necessary to make us who we are.
