Is "Nostalgia" the language of the soul? (Self-inquiry/Philosophy)
Details
Tonight's meeting is on the topic of "nostalgia". Richard Rose claimed that nostalgia is the language of the soul. Was he right? What is nostalgia?
Nostalgia definition: "a sad pleasure experienced in recalling what no longer exists : a wistful or sentimental yearning for a return to or the return of some real or romanticized past period or some irrecoverable past condition or setting" (Taken from Merriam Webster dictionary).
A quote from Richard Rose: "The most painful thing on earth is a pleasant memory. This nostalgia that sometimes comes over us isn’t an accident. It’s a message. It has something to tell us. We’re programmed to indulge in life, but this haunting nostalgia is a subliminal message from another plane. It’s the homing instinct of the mundane mind. At its best, it’s what draws us back to the Father. Nostalgia is a window to the soul, and the soul is lost to man as he lives. Nostalgia is the soul’s memory of prior experience. Touching it, you touch the Eternal"

Quote from Art Ticknor: "To me nostalgia is the vibrational song of the "elan vital" animating this physical-mental manifestation, whose lyrics are "you who are weary come home"".
Elan vital definition: the vital force or impulse of life (Merriam webster)

Here are some questions that come to mind:
How have you come to experience nostalgia in your life? What is it like for you? Do you stay with the feeling or have a knee jerk reaction to avoid your mind going there?
Does nostalgia connect us with our soul?
In what other ways does the soul try to connect with us in our daily lives? Are we too busy, preoccupied with our lives to notice it?
What is the value of opening up to nostalgia?
What questions do you have?
Please join on the night to share your feelings and impressions on this very intriguing aspect of our experience. Looking forward to seeing you there.
