Our subject quotation is often and improperly attributed to Einstein. In fact, it comes from a 1976 book by Bob Samples in which Samples interprets Einstein’s philosophy. The fuller version is - "The intuitive mind is a sacred gift, and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift".

****Note this meetup has a couple of changes to our routine. 1st – we will try out the UO Guelph’s University Centre as our meeting place. Google maps can peg the UC if you don't know the campus. There is free parking Sunday mornings. 2nd - we will meet at 10:30 am to better coincide with Starbucks opening.****.

Metaphorical and highly evocative, Samples assertion begs many questions and considerations. Our concepts of mind, rationality, individual versus societal, and numerous others, are destined for examination. Like the tip of an enormous iceberg, I hope it will be both challenging and fulfilling to imagine what resides under the waterline.

If you are intrigued, please consider attending our meetup to further explore and share, to better understand ourselves within the world, and to seek some practical wisdom.

Just a few prompting questions to get us off the ground –

  1. Where did the quotation take you when you first read it? What feelings?
  2. What personal experiences influence your thinking about intuition?
  3. Intuition and rationality, which one dominates?
  4. How has your thinking evolved?

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
