If you die before you die, then you won’t die when you die.
Details
The starting point for our next meetup originates from an ancient inscription carved above the door of St. Paul’s Monastery, located on the secluded Mount Athos peninsula in Macedonia, Northern Greece (circa 10th century). It translates to: If you die before you die, you won’t die when you die.
I wonder how this quotation might resonate with you? Thinking about death is a major turn-off. Our western culture is, to some degree, ‘death-phobic’.
On the other hand, you might recognize that the same word, used 4 times, has 4 different meanings. You might also see some connections to our recent meetup that unpacked the notion of soul and some Jungian concepts. Perhaps it leads some of us to various other framings such as stoic or mystical.
I invite you to our next meetup to examine where this 1,000 year old inscription might take us and where it fits into your personal philosophy and psychology.
A few changes to this meetup versus our usual practices. We will meet on a Saturday morning, rather than the normal Sunday. As well, we will convene in just a week’s time. For those of you who might be interested, March 21/22 is College Royal. The campus will be alive with visitors and some of us might enjoy taking some time to take in the activities after our meetup.
****We will meet at the U of Guelph’s University Centre, near to Starbucks. Google maps can peg the UC if you don't know the campus. There is free parking on weekends. We will meet at 10:30 am to coincide with Starbucks opening.****.
If you are intrigued, please consider attending to explore and share.
