BLACK FOREST CRAWL

My opinion: this is the best backpacking trail in Pennsylvania. The first few times I completed this loop we did it in 4 days. We then did it several times in 3 days. So for this time I thought we could do it in 2 days (no way) or 5 days and take our time. Retirement is beautiful so let's go for 5 days. Be forewarned, there are a lot of climbs and descents on this trail. Total distance is 44 miles.

Day 1, 7-8 miles
We will meet at the Slate Run boat access parking lot on the east side of Pine Creek Packs on at 10:00 am. We start our hike on Slate Run Road, cross Pine Creek on the bridge and then head to our crossing of Slate Run. This will be boots off. There are camp sites after the crossing if anyone wants to come in the night before. Our campsite for tonight will be by upper Slate Run.

Day 2-3, we can review plans at dinner to see how far we go the next day and where we camp. My goal would be to camp the last night at Little Slate run, leaving us 7 miles for the last day.

Complete the trip with late lunch/ early dinner at Hotel Manor?
